9 Mistakes to Avoid if You Plan to Elope in Vegas

9 Mistakes to Avoid if You Plan to elope in Vegas

Say yes to the idea of an elopement in Vegas!  Many people underestimate simplicity and tie themselves with all sorts expectations. But if you’re familiar with what I’m saying, then maybe this will sound like a good option for your big day instead-especially since it’s less expensive than most weddings (and can be done quicker).

Tying the knot is usually more work than just saying yes.  It typically involves a lot of family and friends, faces familiar or less so; it can be overwhelming to elope in Vegas for your big event when you don’t know what will make everything go smoothly on such an important day!

But if you’re feeling overwhelmed with all these expectations– consider some popular Vegas elopement venue locations for some relief from the tradition-driven weddings (and expensive ceremony costs). These ideas are great for letting two people who love each other have their own small celebration without any fuss at all.

hair and makeup

1st Mistake: Not leaving enough time for hair and makeup.

Having a Vegas wedding doesn’t mean you get to forget about stress altogether. Planning the logistics of location, the transportation, and the coordination, all follow a strict schedule. The groom might allow himself a laid-back attitude before the wedding, but in our experience, the bride needs to allow a lot more time to have the make-up session, especially if her bridal party is also receiving services.

Planning a wedding can be overwhelming, with so many details to consider. But one aspect that should not be overlooked is the hair and make-up services. As a general rule, it will take approximately two hours to have these services rendered. In Las Vegas, the makeup artists will come to you and provide services in your hotel room. So, remember to schedule your glam team at least two hours prior to the ceremony per person receiving services. This will ensure that there is enough time for hair and make-up to be done properly, without rushing or feeling stressed. It’s an opportunity to truly enjoy the preparation process and savor every moment leading up to saying “I do.” This way, you can ensure that everyone has enough time to get ready and look their best for the big day.

As the minutes tick by, you start to relax and enjoy the process, knowing that you are in capable hands. Having your hair and make-up done is not just about looking good, it’s also about taking some time for yourself amidst the chaos of wedding planning to be pampered. As the hairstylist brushes through your hair and the make-up artist applies the final touches, you can’t help but feel a sense of calm wash over you. The stress of the wedding melts away as you focus on the present moment and indulge in a little self-care. And let’s not forget about the mimosa! As you sit in the salon chair, sipping on a refreshing mimosa, you can’t help but feel a sense of celebration.

This is your special day, after all, and what better way to kick it off than with a delicious drink in hand? The combination of the pampering, relaxation, and bubbly beverage creates an atmosphere of joy and anticipation. You can’t help but smile as you envision walking down the aisle, looking and feeling your absolute best. Sit back, relax, and let your glam team work their magic while you sip on a mimosa and embrace the excitement of your wedding day.

Just remember, no matter how simple you prefer your wedding, hair and makeup services will always require extra time and often more time that you planned.  If you need more advice on how much estimated time,  you are well-advised to ask your wedding planner.

wedding memories

2nd Mistake: Not capturing your memories in photos.

There are so many ideas to Elope in Vegas but when you arrive to the decision to have or not have a photographer it’s best to pause and think it through carefully. This is a very important day. It’s one of those highlights of your life. When you look back on your wedding day you might regret it if you don’t capture your wedding day memories. Having a Vegas wedding photographer can go a long way for many reasons.

  • First of all, if you are having an elopement, it will just be the two of you but in Nevada a witness is required.  The photographer will step in and be the witness for your legalities.
  • Secondly, it may be a mistake that you may regret to not have photos as a keepsake of your experience.  Think about it, choosing to have a photographer will give you amazing pictures to share with family and friends. And even better, you may choose some special photos to hang on your wall at home so you can remember your event often as you walk around your house.  You may even decide to go upscale and hire a videographer to make the experience even more cherished and capture it live for posterity.

Be sure your photographer has a camera that will make a backup of the photos they are taking however. Mistakes can happen and photos can get lost by camera malfunctions. If the photographer is a professional, they will have cameras that provide that function.

The ceremony itself is the focus of the entire event and capturing poses of the exchange of rings, vows and special moments is essential.  Once again, this is where the photographer will shine in capturing the special moments for you; but be sure to hire a professional photographer to record those special moments in time with the regrets of having sub-par photos. Excellent photographers will be able to provide creative shots that family members most likely will not be able to duplicate.  You will have memories etched in time to remember.

3rd Mistake: Not considering the first look.

elope in vegas

The first look is a tradition where the bride and groom see each other for the first time before a wedding takes place. In these modern times it’s sometimes done privately and many couples choose to have it done in their wedding suite or in a photo session before the elopement takes place.  The first look is the moment when the groom first sees his bride on the day of the wedding. It most often takes place during the processional when the bride walks down the aisle. It can also take place separately and privately, before the wedding, such at the photo shoot session before the official event takes place.

This is a precious moment and you only have the opportunity once. Having the first look occur when the bride walks down the aisle can prove to be tricky though.  It will require great timing and logistical planning to make sure the guests and the groom don’t see the bride at all before the ceremony.

It would be a mistake for the bride to not have separate transportation to the wedding location. It would also be a mistake to not have another additional coordinator or personal friend be on point as an assistant to time the correct arrival of the bride so the groom will not accidentally see the bride prior to walking down the aisle.

For the first look, the bride needs to be seen by the groom at an appropriate time so the expression of the both the bride and groom can be captured as they see each other for the first time on their wedding day.

Grooms get excited to see their beautiful brides dressed up to the nines and have been often known to be a bit cheeky and try to take a peak too early.  They need to be reminded to look away, otherwise they can mistakenly look too soon and ruin the moment.

4th Mistake: Not being prepared for formalities.

elopement las vegas

A Vegas wedding, by law, requires you to obtain a wedding license before the wedding takes place. The wedding license is easy to obtain in Las Vegas, even to non-residents of the US, but you’ll still have to provide proof of identification. Birth certificates are not mandatory, and any type of official government photo ID will suffice. But there are also specific details you want to know about that are different in Las Vegas than other U.S. states and countries. Be prepared by looking ahead and making the necessary arrangements.

Find out how to get a Las Vegas marriage license to help you prepare for getting married in Vegas.

Remember, also, that holidays are a peak time when it’s harder to find, schedule, and carry out a Vegas wedding. Note, no one else can get the marriage license for you.  Only the bride and groom are allowed to obtain the license, in person. Popular days to avoid going to the license bureau are the major holidays, Valentines day, 4th of July, New Years Eve, for example.  It’s also best to have a look at the major conventions in Las Vegas to avoid bad traffic jams and high hotel room rates. These factors sometimes will effect your experience in obtaining a license because people will decide to get married while in Vegas during conventions.

It’s advisable to visit the Clark county website before you arrive in Vegas and fill out an online pre-application for your Vegas marriage license up to 3 months in advance of your event.

It’s also important to be prepared for seasonal weather fluctuations.  Not knowing specifics about what you will face with the weather could put a huge damper on your event.  For instance, when the weather changes from the cold season (which doesn’t last long) to the hotter weather in July and August, when we extreme heat conditions.

5th Mistake: Scheduling the celebration dinner too soon.

elope to vegas

Though not exactly busy like New York or Los Angeles, traveling through the city of Vegas still takes longer than expected to travel from location to location. Getting from the wedding location to the wedding reception can easily become super stressful if you forget to schedule the celebration and leave enough time to account for traffic congestion and other unplanned incidents.

This is where a wedding planner will be invaluable asset to you because they create an itinerary for you to keep your event on track. When you are eloping, almost anything can happen and often the unexpected does happen which may circumvent a well-planned itinerary. In these circumstances, last-minute revisions will need to be made.

One problem I have experienced happening at events is delays with the limousine. Many mistakes with timing can and do happen.  Two common mistakes that may delay the accurate timing are not planning out the ride well beforehand and calculating the amount of time needed for the elopement event, including travel time.  Las Vegas now has a tremendous amount of construction projects in effect and they are causing significant delays. These delays need to be factored in when planning is done and the planning needs to take place ahead of time.  If you are brave enough to plan it yourself, it’s best to leave enough room in your schedule to account for common challenges and keep your celebration timeline on track. It is well worth your time and money to reduce the stress of the occasion.  There are many excellent reasons to hire a Las Vegas elopement planner to plan your wedding in Vegas ahead of time.

6th Mistake: Not taking advantage of hotel concierge services.

Las Vegas bride at concierge

A helping hand can easily turn what seems to be Herculean effort into a solution only one phone call away. Note that prices can vary greatly depending on which hotel you are staying, but even the small services a hotel concierge provides for free can be a lifesaver. Some of the planning assistance they may offer, depending on the hotel are some of the essential referrals you may need such as dress and tux, salon and spa services. Also, use the valuable services of a concierge to help you when setting up reminders for appointments.

As you get closer to your event the stress usually becomes higher in intensity. Then it may be harder to remain as calm and coordinated as you would like to be. You may always ask the concierge service to help you with reminders and notify you about important deliveries.  We at Custom Las Vegas Weddings also offer an all-in-one day of planning service to our couples.  So whether you go with the concierge at your hotel or decide to avail yourselves of an all-in-one solution like ours, it is a service you might not want to overlook.

7th Mistake: Not having enough limousine time.

elopement packages vegas

With traffic being such a frustration, you’ll need more time to travel from one point to another. More than likely you won’t know the city dynamics, therefore you would be wise to leave the planning to a professional Las Vegas wedding planning company to make a day of timeline.  A professional will be able to estimate more accurately how much time you will need for the limousine. There are a lot of details to take in to consideration when planning the transportation schedule, even for something as simple as an elopement event. Here are some of the mistakes that may take place:

  • Not calculating how much time the event will take.
  • Not doing a proper estimation for travel time to and from the event.
  • Not taking in to consideration traffic construction delays.

To avoid the pitfalls of being late to the wedding, restaurant reservations, or shows it is imperative proper planning takes place well before the event.  It’s most important your experience is more about having fun and enjoying the experience of the ceremony before continuing with your special evening. Your wedding memories should be treasured without blemish.

8th Mistake: Partying too much and not getting enough sleep.

elopement las vegas

A wedding day, complex or less so would still require lots of energy. And the magic of Vegas and the partying or gambling it offers is more alluring than any other when it comes to keeping you awake. Nothing can zap your energy more than these top three things:

  • Drinking too much:  Save the drinking for the night of or the night after the wedding.
  • Not getting enough sleep: Get the needed amount of sleep the night before the wedding and be clear the day of.
  • Not drinking enough water: Whenever you travel, you need to keep hydrated. Any travel and climate change will require more water intake.

Be careful not to over-drink though. It is easy to forget about limits altogether when you are driving through Vegas, at night, experiencing the hidden rhythm with all of those lights shining. If you do happen to drink too much, however here is a great hangover resource to recover from your Vegas hangover if you don’t manage to avoid the partying and need to recover quickly.

If you want a memorable and enjoyable wedding day, take this advice – you must pay heed to these cautions. No matter what! There is always time for late-night partying after the wedding.

9th Mistake: Not having a planner help you coordinate your wedding day.

If you are in Vegas for the first time, try to make the calculations upfront, and see whether or not you’ll fare better with a Vegas wedding planner. They can handle the wedding day coordination down to detail, and even pass you discounts for coordinating vendors, saving you money in the long run, making your experience to elope in Vegas stress-free.

elope in Vegas

If you are in Vegas for the first time, try to make the calculations upfront, and see whether or not you’ll fare better with a Vegas wedding planner. A Vegas elopement planner will handle the wedding day itinerary and coordination meticulously, down to detail, and even pass you discounts for coordinating vendors. They also have a lot of valuable local knowledge about all of the good and bad side of Vegas. The city is constantly changing and we are known as one of the largest “scam cities” in the world. Unfortunately, that title comes with most major tourism sites. Hiring a Vegas elopement planner is like taking the hand of a friend who has lived through it all.

Your planner will give you invaluable advice to steer away from the dark side of the city and into those dazzling lights that you really came to see! For example, beware of texts or phone calls following your ceremony from the “Marriage License Bureau” requesting that you send them additional money to validate your marriage license for an additional cost! This is a recent scam that has plagued a few traveling couples. Having a planner as your ally will help in saving you money in the long run even in ways you could never think of, making your experience eloping in Vegas stress free.

Eloping in Las Vegas option

If you are considering the option to elope to Las Vegas, it is a great solution for wedding couples. Keeping your guest count under 4 will keep your wedding costs within reason. Las Vegas elopements are simple, and require little planning and very few guests, if any, usually attend.  Cost variation – Wedding ceremonies, to include the space and ceremony can cost as little as $500 here in Vegas. If you have a lot of guests, say 30 – 50 guests, a good budget for eloping in Vegas would be $3000.  This is factoring in options to eat affordably and typically this means eating away from a Las Vegas Strip location or choosing a buffet option. If you decide to step outside the norm and not have a chapel wedding there are options you may not know about. Having an outdoor Las Vegas Wedding experience away from the Vegas Strip is great budget saving idea.  Choosing this option will still enable you to have the most enjoyable stress-free experience and add in embellishments you may have to omit if you choose a Vegas Strip wedding. There are some ideas explored below with links to read about a lot of ideas you might consider to stay in budget and still have a unique wedding in Las Vegas. Essentials List: What are your essential needs? What is most important for you? How much you are willing to spend altogether? What Additional elements do you want to add after essentials?

Wedding Budget Checklist:  I have created a Las Vegas wedding budget checklist info-graphic to help you answer these questions and help you determine what is essential for your wedding here in Vegas. When planning weddings for clients I find many couples can’t really tell me their entire budget.  I think it stems from being confused about what alternative all-in-one solutions are available for weddings to fit their individual needs. Vegas Wedding Budget Checklist Las Vegas Wedding Planning Essentials: Of the many couples I have helped, I have found there are budget essentials they need to know about.  Here are lists of items that may help you decide what is essential for you.
Hotel Accommodations:  Keep in mind often your accommodations may be suitable as a location for your ceremony and reception. There are many travel and hotel package deals on offers advertised on the internet.  If you are researching hotels to be suitable for a ceremony and reception choose wisely as this can be a budget saver. Often times, it’s best to also check the season before you plan.  Be sure to read my informative article on accommodations and Las Vegas seasonal hotel pricing tips for weddings.
Accommodation Options – Vegas resorts offer amazing accommodations that can double for reception space, complete with city views and plenty of room to entertain guests. For those who have very little money having a ceremony at your resort is an excellent solution. This is ideal for couples who would rather have a cheaper ceremony and spend the majority of their budget on celebrating, and their honeymoon.
Venue Choice This is one of the most important considerations. You can’t have a wedding without someplace to hold it. Your venue will determine many things and should be decided first.  There are many options for wedding venues in Las Vegas. Literally, it can make you crossed eyed to try to decide. You need to determine what your Las Vegas wedding budget is before you start planning. Research wisely or use the services of a wedding planner to help you choose venues that are good economical solutions.  If you are on a budget an want click this link for Las Vegas elopement wedding package ideas.
Wedding attire: You may make your own dress, buy one cheaply online and bring it or rent a tux and gown in Las Vegas.  Renting seems to be the most popular and cost-effective choice for many. Often companies that rent tux and gowns will deliver to your hotel for you or offer transportation services to and from your hotel, complete with tailoring and steaming options for wrinkles. Makeup and Hair: You may opt to do your own hair and makeup or splurge on your wedding day and go to a spa to have the spa vendors pamper you. The other option is to hire a mobile hair and makeup specialist to come to your room and pamper you in your own private accommodations.  Click here to view my recommended Vegas hair and makeup vendors.
Officiant: Who will perform your ceremony?  How important are their expertise and experience to you? Mobile Ministers and officiants in Las Vegas to come to your location. The price ranges for officiants vary tremendously.  The price quoted you will be based on the officiant’s experience and expertise.    Photographer: There are many excellent Las Vegas photographers to choose from. The prices for photographers vary greatly but the market is flooded with options. Be sure to take your time and ask about the photographer to find out their background, style and what they or the company they work through offers before you hire them and get it in writing. There is a popular trend emerging here in Las Vegas and many destination locations are to release all photo rights. This option saves couples an immense amount of money but not all venue or vendors offer this option. Their styles and pricing vary a great deal.  Be clear on how many photos you want and what style you want for your photos.  Do you require more candid shots or posed shots?  Do you want all your photos in one package price or do you want to buy prints and get the photos later? Do you want extra editing done after the wedding?  Will the printing rights to the photos be released for your own printing options later?  Chapels and casinos often make their money on photos after the wedding. My advice is to think it through carefully before you decide to avoid hidden costs and know the costs up front.
Videographer:  There is many options couple face when planning a video of their wedding. Videographers range in price greatly, depending on your needs.  The simple videos you may get from a chapel will be just that, simple and unedited. You need to decide if you want a video only of the ceremony or if having a reception the cost of determining how many hours you want the video to cover. To keep it cost effective many choose to have the video only of the ceremony.  Then once the decision is made you need to decide if the video should be standard definition or high definition and how you want the video delivered.  cost of getting married in Las Vegas The trend here in Las Vegas for many wedding companies is to deliver the video electronically. However, there is also a trend to supply it on a small disc drive that can go with the couple directly after the ceremony which is great if you are technically savvy.  The downside is it won’t be edited for you if you take it directly. The disc drive option will play directly to your modern TV. So will a Blue Ray disc if you have a Blue Ray player. Most couples decide to have the video edited and special music placed on it. After all, it will be a cherished memory for a lifetime that will be played over and over for many years. I highly recommend capturing your important occasion by getting a video recording of it.  I have cherished my wedding video and am so happy I decided to get it after all. It has many family members who have passed on and are no longer with us so it’s a cherished keepsake to my husband and I.

How to get married in Las Vegas

To get married in Las Vegas you must acquire a wedding license before the wedding day.  You and your fiancé must visit the Las Vegas Marriage Bureau in person to obtain the license.  This must be done before the wedding and presented to a certified and approved licensed wedding officiant or Minister. The cost is $77 and you need to both present a government-issued photo ID.  You may pre-apply for a license electronically online at the clerk’s website page.  One of the questions I am often asked is, if you get married in Vegas is it legal everywhere?  The answer is yes. When you get married in Las Vegas the legality of your marriage is recognized worldwide.

If you need to know more, here is a resource for you. This page will help you find the answers you need to know regarding the popular question, what are the requirements to get married in Las Vegas?

Flowers: Typically I find brides don’t realize the true cost of flowers. Flowers are seasonal and range in price according to availability and season. With our premade planning services we can make planning for flowers in Las Vegas easy and within your budget.  The florist we work with is full service and offers us a discount as a Las Vegas wedding planning venue. We pass those savings on to you and itemize your services so you know all the charges up front.  Flowers for the larger wedding parties often incur a hefty price tag.  Once again, wedding planners will get you a discount and should pass that discount on to you.

determine your Las Vegas wedding budget

Guest list:  How many people do you want to attend?  There are many other simple options that will reduce your costs when factoring in the amount it will cost to accommodate your guests. Do you want to provide a venue with comfortable seating for your guests or have a simple solution where the guests stand during the ceremony?  What is the cost of sending out invitations and providing party favors, etc.?

Transportation: Will you need to provide transportation for all your guests to get to the ceremony?  What will that transportation consist of?  Will it be a party bus?  Do you need separate limousine service for you and your bridal party? How will the timing of arrival to the location be planned?  Do you want to try to plan it yourself or have a planner help you?  You might consider having the ceremony at your resort to avoid transportation costs.

Vendor Tipping:  I think most people realize the wedding industry standard is to tip vendors at least 20 to 30 percent for their services. It is standard  to give limousine drivers about $20 per hour for their service.  It is wise to figure this in for your vendors, especially the transportation services as they rely on this for income.

las vegas elopement pacakges

Food: If you are providing food to your guests this will be a big factor in your budget. In Las Vegas, you can figure it will be at least $20 to $50 per person for food.  Buffets in Las Vegas are phenomenal and they range from simple to elegant.  My two favorite choices for buffets that may be used for a reception are “the Paris Hotel Buffet” and “the M. Resort Buffet”. One nice aspect about the M buffet is alcohol is part of the price which will save you a lot of money in the end. Some restaurants and even buffets like the M will allow you to deliver a cake from an outside vendor.  Some restaurants’ also let you have the wedding ceremony there if you have a larger party of guests, which may save quite a bit of money. For this reason, to keep costs down, you might consider having the ceremony in the restaurant of your choice.

Cake: The wedding cake has been prized as a focal point of the wedding celebration for many years. The pricing of cake can add up to a bundle.

You may obtain a wedding cake for your wedding in Vegas cheaply in some cases but typically it’s best to use a local bakery rather than a casino bakery. You will save a bundle and they do deliver to your hotel.

Las Vegas wedding planning

Advise on ordering the cake:  Consider how many people you have attending and then decide what your budget is for the cake.  Cake vendor pricing ranges dramatically from vendor to vendor. Couples eloping typically only need a small one tier cake, although many decide to customize them Vegas style or with their own vision and style. Of course, there are many choices and styles to choose from.  I recommend you make the decisions about the most important items on your list first, like ceremony items, venue, and photographer and then find out how much you have left to spend for the cake.

Alcohol: Providing an open bar is an expensive option. The cost will depend on the venue you choose.  Venues and restaurants on the Las Vegas strip will charge more for alcohol and so will restaurants. Another option is to choose a buffet that includes alcohol in its price.  For instance, the M Resort buffet includes alcohol in their buffet. Another good solution is to offer only 2 drink coupons and champagne for the toasting.

Romantic group dining restaurant for celebrations

Reception Space Casinos and resorts have a variety of reception space available. If you choose to get married at a Casino resort this will be a higher-end choice.  There are many gorgeous ones to choose from in Las Vegas.  My favorite location in Las Vegas is Lake Las Vegas which is actually in Henderson, NV. Of course, most people want to get married on the Las Vegas strip wedding.  Reception space on Las Vegas Boulevard is pricey.  The choices are endless and so is the price range.  A good wedding planner will be able to find solutions to meet your needs. Even a concierge at your hotel will help you but there may be a price for that as well. Once again, it all hinges on your budget.

Entertainment and DJ: These two items will typically be a larger ticket item reserved for the reception room and larger wedding.  Services will be invaluable because music is a large part of the celebration guests expect from a wedding. Las Vegas has a lot of options for entertainment.  You won’t find a lot of other cities that offer as many alternative choices as Las Vegas for a variety of music and entertainment options.  If you opt not to have a large reception hall and DJ you will still have a lot of other options that will be cost effective for your guests.

Las Vegas Wedding Planner:

Las Vegas Wedding planners perform a variety of services and functions. These services range from simple assistance, the day of coordination or full-scale planning for the large affair. There are many wedding planners in Las Vegas to choose from. We at Custom Las Vegas weddings offer simple assistance and day of coordination and specialize in planning for the smaller events to the mid-size customized events.  Our specialty lies in helping couples with home events and small locations or restaurants that allow outside vendors.  Please call or contact us for more information.

At this point, you should have a good idea what elements of your wedding are most essential.

To recap:

1.    Write a list of essential items.
2.    Call vendors to get pricing or hire a planner to get quotes.
3.    Review the quotes and determine what best suits your needs.
4.    Voila, you have your budget and may get on the next stage which is meeting your vendors and signing a contract for services.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that you want your wedding day to be one that you look back on with happy memories, and ensuring that you organize your budget to include all that you need to make your day special is one way to guarantee that this will happen.

How to Plan Around the Weather for a Red Rock Wedding Las Vegas

You finally decided on the perfect destination wedding experience and chose a Red Rock wedding. But there are details you need to know to plan for having a wedding at Red Rock Canyon and this article gives important facts, tips and ways to make it a more comfortable and successful experience.

Compared to the Las Vegas Valley, there is typically a seven degree difference to prepare for in elevation and sometimes the difference can be greater. Each season brings its surprises. Here are a few seasonal tips for planning around the weather for a Red Rock Wedding Las Vegas or photo shoot.

A Spring Wedding in Red Rocks

Red Rock Weddings

Spring Time Red Rock Weddings Las Vegas

The spring welcomes wildflowers in the lower elevations that pop out of the ground like butterflies from their cocoons. The remnants of winter chill the early morning. The wind picks up and the day is cool with clear skies. Springtime brings the transition season of winter to an end.  Fall brings the transition season of spring to an end.

If you don’t mind crisp air, a spring Red Rock wedding is beautiful among the wildflowers. Enjoy milder weather and sunshine between noon and mid-afternoon. Though cool, the sun’s rays can still burn your skin, so be sure to bring sunscreen.

The temperature steadily rises in spring. Click here for an hourly temperature guide from the official Red Rock Canyon site. This is an accurate and very helpful resource to keep updated on the weather.

In March, the high reaches 65° F. In April, the high is 73° F, and in May, the temperature reaches up to 82° F.

Springtime is a great time to get married at Red Rock Wedding Las Vegas however it may still be windy.  As the colder winter conditions subside, there is an air conversion effect which causes increased wind to come in to the Las Vegas valley and surrounding areas. You may want to have your wedding in the valley at Red Rock Canyon. A great place to have your wedding ceremony that is more protected from the wind is at Ash Springs.  It does require a small 10 minute hike to get there however.  Being closer to the rocks does seem to provide more refuge from the wind than the Red Rock Wedding Las Vegas overlook or the Amphitheater area does.

Read our blog post about seasonal Las Vegas weather to prepare you before visiting Las Vegas.

A Summer Red Rock Wedding Las Vegas

Summer is dry and sunny and and as the summer heat builds up it will cause thunderstorms to build as the monsoon season approaches.  Temperatures can feel scorching in the 100’s. In June, the high starts at an average 93° F.

There is no avoiding the heat and summer also brings a good dose of humidity when the monsoon season hits.  Monsoon season in Las Vegas officially starts early to mid-July from early to mid-September.  July and August are the most humid months in the Las Vegas Valley and Red Rock Canyon also experiences the same conditions if not worse. The mountain ranges there seem to attract in the storms. We constantly keep an eye on the weather and stay updated.

Elopement at Red Rock Canyon Las Vegas

To cope with the intense heat we tend to schedule weddings after the sun goes behind the mountains or is close to setting.  Be sure to bring plenty of water to stay hydrated.  Consider bringing an umbrella or parasol a part of your wedding day. Some brides now prefer to carry parasols and other personalized alternatives in the place of a bridal bouquet. Many of the allowed locations for weddings in Red Rock State Park don’t offer shade. A desert summer requires sunscreen and grit.

Whenever Custom Las Vegas Weddings plans your wedding, they will make sure your limousine provides bottled water and a glorious invention that pushes out cold air, commonly known as air conditioning. We definitely recommend getting an early start. Late weddings can be beautiful and when the sun isn’t directly shining on you it can seem less scorching, but the rocks still hold the heat of the day to be careful when sitting or lying on the rocks.

As summer temperatures fade, a fall Red Rock wedding will feature mild and lovely weather conditions. Mid-September, the entire month of October up until mid-November seems to be Red Rock Canyon weathers sweet spot.  The weather is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a very comfortable temperature as a standard with low wind.

Monsoon weather is usually over by the 1st week of September and raises only the occasional concern. Don’t get caught in the rain near a body of water or you may end up in a flash flood.

It will be the responsibility of your Las Vegas wedding planner to guide you in getting the timing right for your wedding in the desert. In September the sun sets around 7 pm.  By October the sun sets around 6:30 and the later in the month it’s around 6 pm.  November brings a time clock change and clocks roll back an hour with sunset at 4:45 pm.

A Winter Red Rock Wedding Las Vegas

The winter weather at Red Rock Canyon tends toward chilly and sometimes wind accompanies the rain attracted to the mountain areas. Layering is strongly advised and bring a warm coat.  You can find fashionable wedding cover-up garments that will keep you nice and warm. It is also advisable to bring a hat or wrap around for your head. The wind can be sharp and cold on some winter days.

Las Vegas Elopement at Red Rock Canyon

From mid-January to the beginning of March Red Rock can experience periodic bouts of rain in the forecast.  The mountain range tends to attract the storms. If you have a wedding scheduled when there is rain in the forecast it is advisable to keep a close eye on what is happening as flooding often occurs in the wash areas of Red Rock Canyon.  The Bureau of Land Management controls the permits for weddings in Las Vegas.  If there is any danger they will contact your Las Vegas wedding planner who is helping you and issue a warning.  They will also work with the planner to reschedule the wedding if needed due to safety reasons.

In winter temperatures usually reach the mid-fifties by day, but warmer weather can occur. It’s best to have a winter Red Rock wedding in the early to mid-afternoon to take advantage of warmer temperatures.

Red Rock Canyon Elopement Weather

From mild to cold weather, you don’t need to worry about sunscreen too much. Of course in winter the sun goes down earlier and ducks behind some of the tall mountain range by 3:30 to 4 PM. You will want to consider having your Las Vegas desert wedding earlier in the afternoon if you want to capture some warm from the sunlight to offset the cool weather.  Even in the desert, blankets of snow cover the Red Rock Canyon mountains after a snowstorm and snowstorms do happen then.

Let Nature Inspire Your Wedding

Cactus and wedding Ring at Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock State Park is made up of 286 sprawling acres with stunning scenery. Trails meander through juniper and manzanita to the edge of Oak Creek. The creek travels around the park, enriching the riparian habitat with abundant wildlife and native plants.

Do be careful with the natural habitat at Red Rock Canyon.  There are hefty fines in place established by the BLM for breaking the rules so don’t feed the burros.  You also need to know that the desert tortoise at Red Rock is considered endangered and you must not stand within 5 feet of them or else there is a hefty fine.

This ancient and scenic environment provides several beautiful backdrops for a dream outdoor wedding in nature. Take advantage of warmer weather and walk the trails several months or a year before your wedding to get ideas about theme, color scheme and possible weather conditions.

Elope at Red Rock Canyon

Keep in mind that only certain areas of the park permit weddings and no weddings are permitted on the scenic drive. Custom Las Vegas Weddings is one company that is approved to perform weddings at Red Rock Canyon.  They hold a permit for 3 of the designated areas to have a wedding in Red Rock. They will be able to guide you in very creative and romantic experiences at Red Rock Canyon.

Red Rock State Park visitor’s center website is a great resource and place to learn about the history of Red Rock. It is located at the entry of the scenic drive which is a must see if you have the time. You are instructed on the various life zones of the park, which include plant life, wildlife, history and archaeology. Make note of the plant life and colors you see. If you’re a fan of birds, bird walks and hiking trails abound. Remember to always leave the park as you found it.

Planning Wedding Attire around Red Rock Weather

Accessorize for a Red Rock Wedding

  • It’s a popular idea to showcase the backdrop of the scenic mountain range with a cactus bouquet or artificial flowers as natures alter. Have your Vegas wedding planner style your wedding at Red Rock and help you create your own unique vision to match the environment.
  • Be creative and incorporate blush or pastel colors into your theme, bouquet and wedding attire or have Custom Las Vegas Weddings help you plan a Las Vegas desert wedding that will be very private and unique for you.
  • Imagine the use of blue and yellow primary colors against the red rocks of the park. Blue, violet or silver hues would also look lovely in a winter wedding. Let the natural dusky hues bring out the wild romantic in you.
  • You must keep your attire choices in mind as you plan around the weather. Don’t sacrifice your dream wedding wear, but do remain conscious of your fabric choices. Be prepared to carry wedding gown trains.
  • Imagine custom-made vegan or leather boots or pastel color dress and tux styling for your wedding that match the desert landscape.
  • If it’s a little rainy and muddy, you don’t want to sacrifice delicate and expensive shoes. Bring along an extra pair of shoes to walk the trails and put your expensive shoes in a carry bag or tote.  Then when you are ready to start the planning for the wedding ceremony and photos get those beautiful shoes out and let your style shine. Don’t forget umbrellas or a stylish parasol.
  • Layer up for chilly weather, and wear SPF makeup and sunscreen for hotter months. Umbrellas or parasols also come in handy to provide instant shade from the scorching sun.

Red Rock provides an inspiring landscape for a stunning destination wedding. Let nature inspire your Red Rock wedding Las Vegas, but keep the changing seasons in mind as you plan.

Need to know tips to help you choose the date and accommodations for your wedding in Las Vegas

Need to know tips to help you choose the date and accommodations for your wedding in Las Vegas

Selecting your accommodations

Of course, this is the first step you want to do when considering having your wedding in Las Vegas. When you prepare to choose both your date and accommodations there are important factors to consider you may not have thought of.

As a local vendor here in Las Vegas, this is information you need to know from a locals perspective.

Questions to determine when deciding on your expectation for accommodations: Decide what is important to you when you are choosing your hotel accommodations.

  1. Do you want to splurge and be pampered when you stay in Las Vegas?
  2. Does it matter if there is a concierge service to help you with the small details you might need to know about Las Vegas?
  3. Do you want to be centrally located in the newer more modern section of Las Vegas or would you prefer the Vintage Las Vegas?
  4. Will you be using the accommodations for double for having your wedding ceremony? If so, size of the room may matter and you would be better off booking a suite.
  5. How far is the hotel from the other properties you want to visit while here? Is your hotel within walking distance to your planned outings?
  6. Do you only want the bare minimums and are just looking for a deal?  In this case you would want to choose an internet deal on your room.  This appeals to those people who don’t plan to spend much time in their room.

Don’t let it overwhelm you: My advice is, don’t let it overwhelm you.  When you start calling and researching hotel accommodations consider this, you are on vacation and you need to think it through before you call and be on the same page with your spouse as to your expectations for your stay here in Las Vegas.

Budget hotels in Las Vegas: If you want to have an elegant experience and not spend a fortune, you may want to read this article from Trip Advisor which gives an overview of budget accommodations in Las Vegas.

Wedding in Las Vegas

Consider having an in suite or resort wedding in Las Vegas

Hotel Suite: When you procure a hotel suite you may arrange the furniture in such a way to clear a space to stand for your ceremony. A lot of hotel suites have balconies to offer a view of the strip as well. You will save money if you have all your services in one location.  It provides many benefits and savings to you.

Pool or Cabana: Your resort may also let you have your wedding ceremony by their pool area.  Some couples rent a cabana if their wedding guest count is small.  This keeps it intimate and private. Most of the smaller or off strip hotels might allow you to use the pool area.  Sometimes timeshares will let you rent a suite and also let you use their pool area.

The Benefits of Las Vegas hotel elopement packages:

  • Your guests don’t have to travel and you save transportation costs
  • You can get ready and have your hair and makeup done in your room or in a spa at the hotel
  • Your photos may be done in the room and after photos around the hotel property or choose to go on a city photo tour for a fun alternative.

Tip If you are eloping during a holiday, you may want to consider staying off of the Las Vegas strip at one of the local hotel resorts. There are many nice resorts off the strip but still close enough to visit.  Often these hotels have lower pricing and amenities.

The Resort Choices: Off or on Las Vegas Boulevard

Hotels off the Vegas StripThis may be a great choice for you if you want to avoid the traffic and limitations you may encounter in the heart of the city.  There are some great local hotels that might suit you well if you are having a scenic wedding in Las Vegas. For instance, if you are having a Red Rock Canyon wedding, you might want to stay close at the Red Rock Casino.  This casino is a local favorite nestled in the upscale area of Summerlin Las Vegas. The hotel is luxurious, boasting an excellent pool, spa and concierge services and is close to Red Rock Canyon.  Is it also close to much shopping in the Summerlin area.

The Orleans Hotel, Gold Coast, Rio Hotel and the Palms Hotel  and the Westgate Hotel Las Vegas are a few of the hotels you may consider which are just down the road from the Vegas Strip but closer to the off strip amenities you might need while visiting. There is benefit to not playing the part of the captured tourist staying on the main part of the Vegas Strip. These hotels are still very close to the heart of activity but because they are not in the heart of the busy areas, there are benefits. First, you are close to convenience stores and restaurants that will provide cheaper alternatives for food. These hotels all have very nice properties and amenities you might want to consider for your wedding ceremony.

Vegas Strip weddings:  If you still want to stay in the heart of the strip, and these hotels can double for a place to have your wedding ceremony if you don’t  have a large guest count and are considering a Las Vegas elopement.  Some of the suites do accommodate and give enough standing room for visiting guests there for a wedding ceremony.

Getting Married in Vegas

  • The Polo Towers is an affordable and great option to consider. I have performed ceremonies there at the pool area. It’s a nice option to consider.
  • The Cosmopolitan Hotel (this link shows a video) has a beautiful wrap around suites overlooking the Bellagio Fountains and Paris Eiffel Tower resort.
  • The Aria Hotel: Their suites can accommodate a good size guest count and provide indoor views of the Vegas Strip as a backdrop for your nuptials.
  • The Venetian Hotel offers beautiful sunken living rooms in their suites.
  • MGM Sky-loft Suites has great balconies that fit a large crowd of guests.
  • The Mirage Hotel has a tropical atmosphere and beautiful landscaping with waterfalls and palm trees.  It also has a habitat for animals and dolphin shows.
  • The Mandalay Bay also has a tropical atmosphere and boasts a beach with a wave pool and beach parties during the summer as well as a shark habitat.
  • The Luxor Hotel is a very unusual property that is a pyramid and it’s located on the Southern end of the strip across from Mandalay Bay and both are near the Las Vegas Sign.

Here is an article you might want to read which showcases what they consider to be the Best 15 hotels in Las Vegas.   These hotels tend to be the more expensive choices but most people will want to splurge a little when it comes to their accommodations if  they are getting married in Las Vegas.  During your time here in Vegas you might want to get pampered and these hotels are sure to meet that expectation for you.

Guidance to choose your wedding date

Nothing is more crucial than picking out a wedding date. It is essential for planning to book your vendors.  Most vendors need at least a couple weeks’ notice.  If is even better to give notice of a month or more.

Consider the season :
You need to know, there are busy and slow times in Las Vegas that can affect your wedding plans. Be in the know about the busy and slow seasons.

Busy Seasons:  The busiest times of the year are when holidays fall on a weekend. Try to avoid these times and the busy holidays. Hotel Costs rise due to supply and demand issues.

  • Valentine’s Day – this is a popular time for weddings, book well in advance and gets advice from a planner.
  • 4th of July – It’s not as busy as New Year’s Eve but still more costly to book a hotel this time of year.
  • Memorial Day – Since it always takes place on a long weekend there are always droves of people and higher rates for everything.
  • Labor Day – The same circumstances as Memorial Day. Be cautious when booking.
  • New Year’s Eve – Las Vegas Boulevard is shut down to traffic from 5:30 to around 1 pm New Year’s Eve.

Major convention seasons dates are busy times of year:

Check the Las Vegas Convention Victors Authorities website ( http://www.lvcva.com/ ) to see if your chosen wedding date might be a busy time of year for travel and booking a hotel. The conventions listed below are some of the busiest times but there are also other conventions so be sure to check before booking dates.

  • CES – Consumer Electronics Show takes place from January 5th through the 8th. Approximately 130,000 attendees descend on Vegas
  • AVN – Adult Entertainment Convention – January 18th – 21st. Approximately 25,000 people attend.
  • March Madness: the dates are March 14 – 19th. This is the time sports fans travel to Vegas to celebrate and bet on events.
  • Rodeo Finals in December – Weekends of December 7th – 9th and 14th – 16th. Choose the weekday for your wedding and avoid the business or the last weekdays of December before New Year’s Eve.

Slow Seasons:  Consider the slow season for your wedding:

Las Vegas hotel wedding packages

There are several very slow seasons in Las Vegas. Each period of slower activity is due to various differing reasons. Consider the following facts and decide if it’s worth it to plan to have your wedding in a slower season.

  • The weekdays before Christmas are slow. Not many people want to travel this time of year for a wedding.  They are typically home for the holidays. Travel during the holidays may not be as pleasant but it is a very good time to get married in Vegas. You do want to consider, however, a lot of shows go dark during these holidays.  Some restaurants also close down during this time. It is recommended you do your research and decide what is important to you first before you decide.
  • The first few weekdays after New Year’s holiday: This is a slow time which may be of benefit to you. You are more likely to find better hotel deals this time of year. This may be a great deal if you decide to have your wedding ceremony and celebration in the hotel suite.  Your hotel might also be more willing to upgrade your room as well if they know you are celebrating a wedding.
  • The weekdays in July and August: These times tend to be less busy because of the heat here in Vegas.  Nonetheless, this is summer and people often have time off then. You will most likely get summer hotel and travel deals at this time.  Vendors typically are more available at this time as well.
  • A slow gap in December: In between the end of the Rodeo Finals and a few days before New Year’s Eve in December are slow times and may give you a better rate for travel and hotel.
