9 Mistakes to Avoid if You Plan to Elope in Vegas

9 Mistakes to Avoid if You Plan to elope in Vegas

Say yes to the idea of an elopement in Vegas!  Many people underestimate simplicity and tie themselves with all sorts expectations. But if you’re familiar with what I’m saying, then maybe this will sound like a good option for your big day instead-especially since it’s less expensive than most weddings (and can be done quicker).

Tying the knot is usually more work than just saying yes.  It typically involves a lot of family and friends, faces familiar or less so; it can be overwhelming to elope in Vegas for your big event when you don’t know what will make everything go smoothly on such an important day!

But if you’re feeling overwhelmed with all these expectations– consider some popular Vegas elopement venue locations for some relief from the tradition-driven weddings (and expensive ceremony costs). These ideas are great for letting two people who love each other have their own small celebration without any fuss at all.

hair and makeup

1st Mistake: Not leaving enough time for hair and makeup.

Having a Vegas wedding doesn’t mean you get to forget about stress altogether. Planning the logistics of location, the transportation, and the coordination, all follow a strict schedule. The groom might allow himself a laid-back attitude before the wedding, but in our experience, the bride needs to allow a lot more time to have the make-up session, especially if her bridal party is also receiving services.

Planning a wedding can be overwhelming, with so many details to consider. But one aspect that should not be overlooked is the hair and make-up services. As a general rule, it will take approximately two hours to have these services rendered. In Las Vegas, the makeup artists will come to you and provide services in your hotel room. So, remember to schedule your glam team at least two hours prior to the ceremony per person receiving services. This will ensure that there is enough time for hair and make-up to be done properly, without rushing or feeling stressed. It’s an opportunity to truly enjoy the preparation process and savor every moment leading up to saying “I do.” This way, you can ensure that everyone has enough time to get ready and look their best for the big day.

As the minutes tick by, you start to relax and enjoy the process, knowing that you are in capable hands. Having your hair and make-up done is not just about looking good, it’s also about taking some time for yourself amidst the chaos of wedding planning to be pampered. As the hairstylist brushes through your hair and the make-up artist applies the final touches, you can’t help but feel a sense of calm wash over you. The stress of the wedding melts away as you focus on the present moment and indulge in a little self-care. And let’s not forget about the mimosa! As you sit in the salon chair, sipping on a refreshing mimosa, you can’t help but feel a sense of celebration.

This is your special day, after all, and what better way to kick it off than with a delicious drink in hand? The combination of the pampering, relaxation, and bubbly beverage creates an atmosphere of joy and anticipation. You can’t help but smile as you envision walking down the aisle, looking and feeling your absolute best. Sit back, relax, and let your glam team work their magic while you sip on a mimosa and embrace the excitement of your wedding day.

Just remember, no matter how simple you prefer your wedding, hair and makeup services will always require extra time and often more time that you planned.  If you need more advice on how much estimated time,  you are well-advised to ask your wedding planner.

wedding memories

2nd Mistake: Not capturing your memories in photos.

There are so many ideas to Elope in Vegas but when you arrive to the decision to have or not have a photographer it’s best to pause and think it through carefully. This is a very important day. It’s one of those highlights of your life. When you look back on your wedding day you might regret it if you don’t capture your wedding day memories. Having a Vegas wedding photographer can go a long way for many reasons.

  • First of all, if you are having an elopement, it will just be the two of you but in Nevada a witness is required.  The photographer will step in and be the witness for your legalities.
  • Secondly, it may be a mistake that you may regret to not have photos as a keepsake of your experience.  Think about it, choosing to have a photographer will give you amazing pictures to share with family and friends. And even better, you may choose some special photos to hang on your wall at home so you can remember your event often as you walk around your house.  You may even decide to go upscale and hire a videographer to make the experience even more cherished and capture it live for posterity.

Be sure your photographer has a camera that will make a backup of the photos they are taking however. Mistakes can happen and photos can get lost by camera malfunctions. If the photographer is a professional, they will have cameras that provide that function.

The ceremony itself is the focus of the entire event and capturing poses of the exchange of rings, vows and special moments is essential.  Once again, this is where the photographer will shine in capturing the special moments for you; but be sure to hire a professional photographer to record those special moments in time with the regrets of having sub-par photos. Excellent photographers will be able to provide creative shots that family members most likely will not be able to duplicate.  You will have memories etched in time to remember.

3rd Mistake: Not considering the first look.

elope in vegas

The first look is a tradition where the bride and groom see each other for the first time before a wedding takes place. In these modern times it’s sometimes done privately and many couples choose to have it done in their wedding suite or in a photo session before the elopement takes place.  The first look is the moment when the groom first sees his bride on the day of the wedding. It most often takes place during the processional when the bride walks down the aisle. It can also take place separately and privately, before the wedding, such at the photo shoot session before the official event takes place.

This is a precious moment and you only have the opportunity once. Having the first look occur when the bride walks down the aisle can prove to be tricky though.  It will require great timing and logistical planning to make sure the guests and the groom don’t see the bride at all before the ceremony.

It would be a mistake for the bride to not have separate transportation to the wedding location. It would also be a mistake to not have another additional coordinator or personal friend be on point as an assistant to time the correct arrival of the bride so the groom will not accidentally see the bride prior to walking down the aisle.

For the first look, the bride needs to be seen by the groom at an appropriate time so the expression of the both the bride and groom can be captured as they see each other for the first time on their wedding day.

Grooms get excited to see their beautiful brides dressed up to the nines and have been often known to be a bit cheeky and try to take a peak too early.  They need to be reminded to look away, otherwise they can mistakenly look too soon and ruin the moment.

4th Mistake: Not being prepared for formalities.

elopement las vegas

A Vegas wedding, by law, requires you to obtain a wedding license before the wedding takes place. The wedding license is easy to obtain in Las Vegas, even to non-residents of the US, but you’ll still have to provide proof of identification. Birth certificates are not mandatory, and any type of official government photo ID will suffice. But there are also specific details you want to know about that are different in Las Vegas than other U.S. states and countries. Be prepared by looking ahead and making the necessary arrangements.

Remember, also, that holidays are a peak time when it’s harder to find, schedule, and carry out a Vegas wedding. Note, no one else can get the marriage license for you.  Only the bride and groom are allowed to obtain the license, in person. Popular days to avoid going to the license bureau are the major holidays, Valentines day, 4th of July, New Years Eve, for example.  It’s also best to have a look at the major conventions in Las Vegas to avoid bad traffic jams and high hotel room rates. These factors sometimes will effect your experience in obtaining a license because people will decide to get married while in Vegas during conventions.

It’s advisable to visit the Clark county website before you arrive in Vegas and fill out an online pre-application for your Vegas marriage license up to 3 months in advance of your event.

It’s also important to be prepared for seasonal weather fluctuations.  Not knowing specifics about what you will face with the weather could put a huge damper on your event.  For instance, when the weather changes from the cold season (which doesn’t last long) to the hotter weather in July and August, when we extreme heat conditions.

5th Mistake: Scheduling the celebration dinner too soon.

elope to vegas

Though not exactly busy like New York or Los Angeles, traveling through the city of Vegas still takes longer than expected to travel from location to location. Getting from the wedding location to the wedding reception can easily become super stressful if you forget to schedule the celebration and leave enough time to account for traffic congestion and other unplanned incidents.

This is where a wedding planner will be invaluable asset to you because they create an itinerary for you to keep your event on track. When you are eloping, almost anything can happen and often the unexpected does happen which may circumvent a well-planned itinerary. In these circumstances, last-minute revisions will need to be made.

One problem I have experienced happening at events is delays with the limousine. Many mistakes with timing can and do happen.  Two common mistakes that may delay the accurate timing are not planning out the ride well beforehand and calculating the amount of time needed for the elopement event, including travel time.  Las Vegas now has a tremendous amount of construction projects in effect and they are causing significant delays. These delays need to be factored in when planning is done and the planning needs to take place ahead of time.  If you are brave enough to plan it yourself, it’s best to leave enough room in your schedule to account for common challenges and keep your celebration timeline on track. It is well worth your time and money to reduce the stress of the occasion.  There are many excellent reasons to hire a Las Vegas elopement planner to plan your wedding in Vegas ahead of time.

6th Mistake: Not taking advantage of hotel concierge services.

Las Vegas bride at concierge

A helping hand can easily turn what seems to be Herculean effort into a solution only one phone call away. Note that prices can vary greatly depending on which hotel you are staying, but even the small services a hotel concierge provides for free can be a lifesaver. Some of the planning assistance they may offer, depending on the hotel are some of the essential referrals you may need such as dress and tux, salon and spa services. Also, use the valuable services of a concierge to help you when setting up reminders for appointments.

As you get closer to your event the stress usually becomes higher in intensity. Then it may be harder to remain as calm and coordinated as you would like to be. You may always ask the concierge service to help you with reminders and notify you about important deliveries.  We at Custom Las Vegas Weddings also offer an all-in-one day of planning service to our couples.  So whether you go with the concierge at your hotel or decide to avail yourselves of an all-in-one solution like ours, it is a service you might not want to overlook.

7th Mistake: Not having enough limousine time.

elopement packages vegas

With traffic being such a frustration, you’ll need more time to travel from one point to another. More than likely you won’t know the city dynamics, therefore you would be wise to leave the planning to a professional Las Vegas wedding planning company to make a day of timeline.  A professional will be able to estimate more accurately how much time you will need for the limousine. There are a lot of details to take in to consideration when planning the transportation schedule, even for something as simple as an elopement event. Here are some of the mistakes that may take place:

  • Not calculating how much time the event will take.
  • Not doing a proper estimation for travel time to and from the event.
  • Not taking in to consideration traffic construction delays.

To avoid the pitfalls of being late to the wedding, restaurant reservations, or shows it is imperative proper planning takes place well before the event.  It’s most important your experience is more about having fun and enjoying the experience of the ceremony before continuing with your special evening. Your wedding memories should be treasured without blemish.

8th Mistake: Partying too much and not getting enough sleep.

elopement las vegas

A wedding day, complex or less so would still require lots of energy. And the magic of Vegas and the partying or gambling it offers is more alluring than any other when it comes to keeping you awake. Nothing can zap your energy more than these top three things:

  • Drinking too much:  Save the drinking for the night of or the night after the wedding.
  • Not getting enough sleep: Get the needed amount of sleep the night before the wedding and be clear the day of.
  • Not drinking enough water: Whenever you travel, you need to keep hydrated. Any travel and climate change will require more water intake.

Be careful not to over-drink though. It is easy to forget about limits altogether when you are driving through Vegas, at night, experiencing the hidden rhythm with all of those lights shining. If you do happen to drink too much, however here is a great hangover resource to recover from your Vegas hangover if you don’t manage to avoid the partying and need to recover quickly.

If you want a memorable and enjoyable wedding day, take this advice – you must pay heed to these cautions. No matter what! There is always time for late-night partying after the wedding.

9th Mistake: Not having a planner help you coordinate your wedding day.

If you are in Vegas for the first time, try to make the calculations upfront, and see whether or not you’ll fare better with a Vegas wedding planner. They can handle the wedding day coordination down to detail, and even pass you discounts for coordinating vendors, saving you money in the long run, making your experience to elope in Vegas stress-free.

elope in Vegas

If you are in Vegas for the first time, try to make the calculations upfront, and see whether or not you’ll fare better with a Vegas wedding planner. A Vegas elopement planner will handle the wedding day itinerary and coordination meticulously, down to detail, and even pass you discounts for coordinating vendors. They also have a lot of valuable local knowledge about all of the good and bad side of Vegas. The city is constantly changing and we are known as one of the largest “scam cities” in the world. Unfortunately, that title comes with most major tourism sites. Hiring a Vegas elopement planner is like taking the hand of a friend who has lived through it all.

Your planner will give you invaluable advice to steer away from the dark side of the city and into those dazzling lights that you really came to see! For example, beware of texts or phone calls following your ceremony from the “Marriage License Bureau” requesting that you send them additional money to validate your marriage license for an additional cost! This is a recent scam that has plagued a few traveling couples. Having a planner as your ally will help in saving you money in the long run even in ways you could never think of, making your experience eloping in Vegas stress free.

eloping in Las vegas

The allure of choosing to elope in Vegas is the expense savings you reap the benefits of.  There are many things you won’t have to contend with when you decide to elope. You will incur less expense if you elope in Vegas than if you decide to have a large formal affair. Below you will see some comparisons of each option. You will still have some expenses if you elope but less of them.

Expenses you will avoid if you elope:

  • Pre-wedding dinners and parties (bachelorette and bachelor parties).
  • A large reception with DJ:  Reception venues typically cost $2000 or more for 4 hours.
  • Food for all your guests:  Food per person on the Vegas Strip starts at about $70-$100 per person unless it’s a buffet and buffets have disadvantages at times.
  • Alcohol expense:  Alcohol is a huge expense if you have an open bar.  The more people you have the more expensive it will get for your budget.
  • Decorations: The flowers, lights, dance floor and staff to accommodate setup and breakdown can be high dollar items in the end.
  • Transportation for guests:  Your guests need to get there and back. If it’s a large party of people (30-50) bus transportation is in the $550 range just for 3 hours.
  • Receptions take 4 or more hours and cost on average $5-$10,000.  Most receptions last around 4 hours.
  • Entertainment:  Typically, it’s a DJ although other entertainment can cost a pretty penny.

8. Saving on venue costs:

Venue costs will be much less expensive if you elope in Vegas. The cost of eloping in Las Vegas and choosing a simple venue is cheap compared to the cost of using a venue for a large group of guests. Las Vegas wedding venues typically cost $2000 and upward to several thousands of dollars to rent for a large event.

Las Vegas elopement
Renting a reception venue for a full blown form affair costs more because the duration of the event usually lasts 4 to 5 hours. The choice to elope means your venue will not be needed as long. The time spent at the venue for an elopement is usually one to two hours at the most but usually no more than an hour.  Even if you have a unique elopement experience in Las Vegas, it will still be much cheaper than a full blown formal wedding.  There are many great elopement venue choices in Las Vegas and they are much cheaper to use.  You may also use the venues in creative ways that won’t break the bank.

For instance, a Nelson Ghost Town elopement is a fun experience and the venue for up to 10 people costs only $100 to rent the venue for an elopement. There are quite a lot of great options to choose for eloping in Vegas with fun venues that will fit your budget.

Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab has been a brainchild of collaboration between two companies, Lettuce Entertain You and Joe’s Stone Crab.  I can personally vouch for the wonderful fare and atmosphere of this restaurant.  It is also one my husband and I celebrated our anniversary at. The main fare of this restaurant is seafood and I absolutely adore seafood, especially lobster. My lobster was fantastic and melted in my mouth. The seafood is fresh and daily flown in to Vegas.  Signature prime steaks are also featured. Master Chef’s hands carve the Rib Eye, or Bone-in Filet Mignon.  The deserts are refreshing. As you walk in the restaurant you mare met with a busy lounge. The waiters feature tuxedos and the service is superb.

Quiet and romantic restaurant for dinner celebrations

My husband and I have celebrated an anniversary at Hugo’s Cellar.  It is a very romantic, low light and quiet setting for these kinds of occasions. It’s really best in my opinion for a smaller romantic celebration. We had three waiters and it was truly a gourmet dining experience. The attendants and servers are constantly interacting with you and very attentive.  If that is something you want, terrific. Every lady present will be presented a long-stem rose when they arrive. The atmosphere of this restaurant is old-style Las Vegas.  Some of the featured entrees are Black Angus beef, veal, duck chicken, flown-in-fresh seafood, to name a few. This is an Article about restaurants for weddings and celebrations in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas excels in the hospitality arena. The restaurants and staff are well trained and are equipped to provide fast efficient group set up. In fact, I consider myself spoiled.  I have been to some other cities and quite frankly expected better service than I received because I am used to the standard I am accustomed to here. Nonetheless, no matter how great the service is in Vegas it is always advised to give appropriate advance notice and make reservations at any of these fine dining establishments.

Hopefully the restaurants reviewed in this article will help make your restaurant celebration choice easier. These are great spots to consider in my opinion. They are elegant fine dining choices whether it’s an engagement dinner celebration, a place to pop the question and propose, a Vegas wedding or anniversary. This article provides useful links, pricing information, contact information, website links and descriptions of the fare served.

The ambiance, elegance and environment of each of the restaurant choices in this article speaks for itself. These are all great Las Vegas restaurants for groups which offer private dining options which is optimal if you want to focus on your guests and not have a lot of interruption and noise during dinner.

Some people, depending on the occasion, will want to focus only on each other for their wedding or anniversary dinner and may prefer the low light, more private setting.  Other situations will call for including family or friends at your celebration so there is a lot to consider when making your decision about the ambiance of the restaurant.

Even if these restaurants are on the higher end of the expense ratio, I think for a special occasion it’s worth the price.  After all, how many special life events do you experience on a day to day basis? Wouldn’t you agree these types of occasions deserve a special dining experience? How often do you get to sit with your favorite people and celebrate a special hallmark occasion? I think you and your occasion are worth celebrating.

The Pros and Cons to Elope in Las Vegas – Infographic 101

Do you want to elope in Las Vegas?

You might be thinking you want to elope in Las Vegas, just so you don’t have to deal with the stress of wedding planning. However, you don’t just want to elope to Las Vegas without thinking through the pros and cons of everything first.

Elope in Las Vegas

Many couples are faced with the decision to either have a big wedding or decide on a smaller wedding and eloping in Vegas provides many great possibilities. The info-graphic next to this article, created by the Wedding Band Shop, outlines the pros and cons you need to consider when deciding if you want to elope or not. Eloping is not a decision I advise you to rush into. Think about all the pros and cons when making the decision. This article will take you through the pros and cons to help you decide.

What is your motivation to decide on a Las Vegas elopement?

vegas elopement

What do you envision for your wedding? Do you dream of walking down the wedding aisle with all eyes on you?  If so, you will want to either reconsider your decision or put aside those emotions.

planning a vegas elopement
How well does your family work together and with you on decisions? If your family doesn’t work well together or if they often clash with your ideas and decisions, eloping offers a great choice to avoid conflict in your wedding experience.

Do you really want to elope or are the frustrations of planning pushing you into the decision? If you have given up on the idea of a larger wedding just because of the frustrations you are experiencing, you may want to step back and re-think it. Frustrated feelings are most often natural emotional reactions to stress whether you elope or not. You will be out of your comfort zone when planning. You just need to decide how far out of your comfort zone you want to go.

What does your partner want?  The final choice should belong to both you and your partner.  What do they want?  Ask them and then consider some of the pros and cons and in the end, doing so will help you arrive at a mutual decision.

Have you considered all the options?  Eloping is not the only choice of course. It suits a lot of couples but you will need to decide what aspects of your wedding are most important to you in the end and act accordingly.

Is there a chance you will regret your decision? If you think there is a chance you will look back and regret your decision, you will want to really take the time and think it through with your partner.

eloping in Vegas

     Pros –

  1. It’s less expensive – You avoid many of the costs associated with larger weddings when you decide to elope in Las Vegas. The cost of eloping in Vegas pales in comparison when you factor in the guest count, restaurant fees, and decoration costs, not to mention the formal cost of planning a formal affair.  For example, many venues including ours offer all-inclusive elopement packages in Vegas.
  2. You call the shots – Elopement puts you and your partner back in control. You can rest assured you are making decisions you want to make without any unwanted family coercion and intrusions on your wishes.
  3.  The world is yours – the sky is the limit when it comes to choices here in Las Vegas. There are places to get married in Vegas outside that provide great opportunities for an impromptu event. For those wanting something more private, there are great elopements venues in Las Vegas to consider that don’t break the bank but still offer the classy elopement option.
  4. Only VIP’s are present – Whether you decide it will just be the two of you or if you want to bring along a select number of family or friends, you are only having those you really want there at your wedding.
  5.  Privacy – When you have a large formal wedding event you spend a majority of your time around other people, pleasing them and entertaining them. With an audience of 200 guests, it’s difficult to enjoy the private moments with your new partner.

      Cons-

  1. Hurt Feelings – No matter where you decide to elope, one problem some people might face when thinking about eloping is the potential hurt feelings. Not all the family will agree with your decision to get married Las Vegas and the reality is you may have to deal with some fallout. Hopefully, most of your friends and family will be supportive and in the majority of cases, people love the weather and entertainment, not to mention the gambling opportunism most people love about Las Vegas.
  2. Fewer Gifts – If you are in need of receiving necessary gifts for the household in your newlywed life or if you want to receive personal remembrance gifts that mean a lot of you, the variety and amount will not be as plentiful if you elope.
  3. Less Extravagance – Smaller weddings are often less glamorous affairs than the larger formal events. That is not always the case but they certainly will not carry the formal flair and glamour a larger wedding affords.
  4. Dependence of vendors – You may choose a number of vendors or no vendors at your smaller Vegas elopement. This can be a pro or con depending on your opinion. Often times if you want a simple elopement in Vegas you will want a photographer to capture your affair for posterity. But you may choose to only have a ceremony and use your friends and family to take photos or video. If you choose a Vegas elopement for two, it will be essential to choose a photographer to be your witness. Choose a vendor that will allow you to use your own photos and not make you dependent on them entirely.
  5. Fewer guests to witness – With fewer guests attending, there will be fewer people to reminisce with you about your wedding day later. Of course, if you get a video or photo and have a get together later with a slideshow of the event that will help. That is what many couples who elope decide to do but it still is not the same as being there to share it with you.

11 Tips for a Las Vegas Destination Wedding

Here are some Las Vegas wedding preparation tips to help you prepare for your wedding experience.

Planning a Las Vegas destination wedding from out of the country or even from a different state of the union is a thrilling proposition but there can be challenges at times. This article is helpful with some of the best Las Vegas wedding preparation tips to make your experience better.

Las Vegas is a dream city and getting married there is a memorable experience no matter where you come from around the world. Here are great Vegas wedding planning tips to help you prepare accordingly.

1. Jet lag preparation

Las Vegas destination wedding
Flying to Vegas from out of the country or from another state to have a Las Vegas destination wedding can be a long, tiring journey. Jet lag can dramatically affect how you feel and if you aren’t prepared it may make your Las Vegas marriage experience be less than desirable. Avoid jet lag symptoms by carrying melatonin supplements. Traveling often disrupts the circadian rhythm of melatonin in the body. This often causes severe jet lag for those that travel long distances. Use between 0.5 mg and 5 mg of melatonin an hour before sleeping and only after reaching Las Vegas. Vegas hotels can be noisy with a lot of disruptions from foot traffic and hotel pool parties. Whatever sleep aids you use, take it with you for a refreshing slumber. This will ultimately be a life saver if you want to get married in Vegas without feeling groggy.

2. Enough time to sleep and recuperate

Man and Woman Refreshed

Flying to Vegas means crossing different time zones. Crossing more than one time zone will disrupt your circadian rhythm and your body will require a few days to acclimatize. Our advice is allow enough time to lapse between arrival and your wedding day.  Allow at least two to three days to recuperate. It’s also a great idea to prepare yourself physically ahead of time by exercising regularly, enjoying a healthy diet and getting as much adequate sleep as you can.

To help heal your Las Vegas jet lag check out the Las Vegas Visitors Authority spa page resource.

3. Keep in mind the time difference when communicating with family

Time zones
Calling family and friends in Las Vegas can be confusing depending on the time zones and time differences there are. The United States has a total of seven main country time zones. Flying to Vegas to get married at a Las Vegas destination wedding locationdepending on where you come from,  could mean crossing varied time zones. Note the time difference to call your family at a proper time.

This resource will show the time zone map of the United States to give you a reference point for time zone comparison.

4. Keep hydrated

water hydration

The desert environment, hot sun and swelling temperatures in Las Vegas can be hard on people who are used to a dramatically different climate. It’s very important to drink enough water to keep  hydrated. Becoming dehydrated in Vegas is a common problem. The climate is hot and dry and hydration is highly critical for a person from out of the country. If you don’t stay hydrated jet lag effects may worsen, fatigue will result and your excellent experience to enjoy your Vegas marriage could be in jeopardy.

This a great company to try out if you need to restore your hydration levels in Las Vegas and feel better.

5. Exchange money to have dollars before you arrive

money exchange

Before you arrive in Vegas, exchange your home currency to the U.S. dollar. You will normally get better rates exchanging your money at home than you will get trying to do so at the main cashier cages in Vegas casinos, for instance. It’s also important to call your credit card provider and bank before you travel to alert them about your travel. It is commonplace for banks to flag and put a hold on bank credit card purchases originating from using your debit card or credit card in a foreign land. Banks and credit card companies are quick to suspect fraud and freeze your money.  You don’t want that to happen to you so it’s best to come prepared and know what to expect.

This article gives advice on the best places to exchange currency in Las Vegas once you are here.

6. Knowing about public transportation

Uber transportation services

Getting around Vegas is usually not a problem because there are plenty of travel options available.  Knowing your options and preparing beforehand is much better than arriving and make spontaneous decisions that end up costing you more in the long run. Uber and Lyft are approved rides in the city. Both companies offer phone apps to pick your driver to get you where you want to go. Lyft can pick you from the airport but won’t show the price range. Uber lets you know beforehand what you’ll pay before you call a specific driver. Beware of surge pricing that could charge you an extra $30 up to a high of $100. You can also get around with monorail if you’re travelling within any of the seven spots it starts from. The monorail starts at a cost of $5 for a single ride pass or $12 for a day pass. Here is an article with valuable Las Vegas tram information and links to help you. Taxi options are abundant and virtually anywhere although the cost varies depending on the time of year and traffic. If you request a taxi from the airport it will cost you more. Deuce is Vegas public transportation that is a very inexpensive option and it covers most of the city areas you will need to get to.  The cost of Deuce is $6 for a two-hour pass, $8 for a 24-hour pass or a $20 for a 72-hour pass with ticket purchase available on the bus. There’s also a loop trolley bus service in Vegas with costs ranging from $2.50 to $20 for one-way tickets to 4-day passes.

7. Save money by renting a vehicle

Car Rental

It may be easier and less expensive in the end to hire a rental car for your Las Vegas destination wedding.  You may do this easily when you book your hotel as a airfare rental car package or get the rental car from the airport upon arrival. The local shops on the Las Vegas strip can gouge you. You will find the best prices for staples you need will be local shops away from the Vegas Strip therefore having a rental car is preferable and will save a lot of money in the end.  Having a rental car will also open up your restaurant choices. There is a big price difference from restaurants on the Vegas Strip verses off the Vegas Strip.  Therefore it would be cost effective in the long run to have your own vehicle and not be confined to buying only from Las Vegas Strip establishments.  You could rent a car from as low as $7 a day depending on the dates you’ll be in the city. You may find applicable coupons to use which will lower the cost of renting a car thus paying much less in the long run. Stay diligent to keep pricing checking as you might get the cheapest car rental rates this way. Some rental companies allow prepayment options which can give discounts up to 25% off the cost of a full week rental.

8. Make show reservations ahead of time

vegas show reservations

Las Vegas is the entertainment capital of the world. There’s always a show going on, from live music, concerts, city headliners, comedies, movies and other events. Making prior reservations to most shows attracts the best ticket prices. 9. Do your Las Vegas wedding pre-application before you arrive

Once you’ve made up your mind to get married in Vegas, make a marriage license pre-application online. You can actually do this about 60 days before the ceremony, giving you ample time to prepare. Bring your foreign country issued ID and ensure you’re at least 18 years of age. While making the online application ensure information entered matches the details on your ID. Avoid spelling errors on the form or leaving out any required information.

10. Have comfortable walking shoes and bring a variety of clothes to layer

woman packing suitcase

The hot and dry climate of Las Vegas can be a chore to keep up with. The temperatures in the desert climate sometimes can be as high as 120 degrees in summer months. Plan to stay hydrated and wear sunscreens even for pool visits and short walks. Don’t forget to bring along comfortable walking shoes. Las Vegas has large city blocks and the distance between resorts is deceiving to calculate. You want to have shoes that are soft on your feet. It’s also a great idea to layer your clothes and bring a sweater along, even in the summer.  The air conditioning in Las Vegas hotels often feels freezing due to high-tech air conditioning. These establishments keep the temperature cool indoors to offset the summer heat.  It is a good idea to bring a light weight wrap or easy to carry sweaters to have as you visit casinos, theaters or restaurants.

11. Be prepared to tip

Gratuity in envelope

Tipping customs or giving gratuities varies across the world.  Some countries do not give gratuities as a standard.  Most service industry workers in Las Vegas including the vendors in the wedding industry expect gratuities and some depend on gratuities to make a decent living.  For drinks, tipping $1 each is more or less the norm. If you are buying from hotel kiosk vendors show tickets will cost you from $5 to $10 in tips, $2 to $5 for dinner reservations and $20 for getting sold-out top shows or tough-to get dinner reservations. Maid or housekeeping service attracts $2 to $5 nightly tips. Tipping a limo driver 20% of the total cost is considered good etiquette. Regardless of your opinion about tips realize service providers will expect a gratuity.  Restaurant waiters and waitresses typically get a 20% or more gratuity. Wedding vendors will also typically expect a 20% gratuity as well.
